Come to our National Library Week Kick-Off Celebration:
Lights, Camera, Read!
Music, games, movies and prizes will all be part of the “Ready, Set, Read” National Library Week celebration from noon to 3 p.m., Sunday, April 15 in the lobby of the Schaumburg Township District Library. Highlighting books that have made it to the silver screen, special events will include:
Children’s games in the lobby / Cartoons in the Audiovisual Department / A book sale in the foyer / Drawings for prizes / Show tunes performed by pianist Wayne Richards.
Children can try their hand at games like “Caddy Shack” mini golf, “Air Bud” bean bag toss and more. Little patrons will all win prizes by playing the “Mighty Ducks” duck pond game in Youth Services, while those age 6-12 are welcome to participate in “Library Lingo,” a Bingo-type game in the Craft Room. Fabulous deals await buyers at the book sale, with all proceeds going to the Children’s Home and Aid Society. Cameras are welcome at this event, as the library’s mascot, Reggie the Reading Raccoon, will be meeting and greeting guests.
In the Audiovisual Department, Loony Tunes cartoons will play throughout the celebration. Anyone is welcome to drop in and watch for any amount of time. The cartoons will end at 3 p.m., followed by the animated feature films “Happy Feet” at 3 p.m., “Flushed Away” at 4:30 p.m., and “Open Season” at 6 p.m.
All ages are welcome to participate in a simple five-question survey about the library, with each participant receiving a prize. Additionally, whoever answers the survey questions may also enter a drawing in which winners will have their photo on a READ poster in the library. Winners will also receive their own personal copy of the poster.
Following the celebration, adults are invited to attend “I Sure Liked the Book Better” from 3:30-5 p.m. in the library’s Rasmussen South Room. Daily Herald Film Critic Dann Gire, president of the Chicago Film Critics Association, will examine the books-to-film phenomenon. To register for this free program, call (847) 923-3349. So mark your calendars for April 15. Hope to see you there! |
