ELECT TO USE YOUR LIBRARY 

You never know what will get you into the library for the first time. At a recent event, former Chicago Cub star Ron Santo mentioned that he first started using the library when he was diagnosed with diabetes. Santo said he got vital information on the disease at the library. Whatever your information needs, elect to use the library as one of your information sources. "Marketing Essentials for Nonprofitswill lead participants through the elements of developing marketing plans and goals. Learn about branding and how it fosters connections between you and your donors, customers and partners. Plus, learn about the  best practices online, e-mail marketing strategies and how marketing fits into earned-income strategies. Orientation to the Northwest Suburban Philanthropy Center

The Northwest Suburban Philanthropy Center is part of the librarys collection, providing information on various aspects of fundraising. This orientation will provide an overview of the Philanthropy Centers resources and feature instruction on how to best use the  centers electronic products, including Illinois Funding Source, Foundation Directory Online, and WealthEngine. This program is for those working with nonprofit organizations, as well as those who might do business with these organizations.  Register by calling the Adult Information desk at (847) 923-3349.

 

Tax Update 2005: Keeping More of What You Make

New tax rules and regulations often require different tax planning strategies. Join Richard Augustine, CPA, and others from R.J. Augustine and Associates, for a discussion of how recent changes may help save money on your tax returns. The Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2003 and any proposed legislation for 2005 will be reviewed. BUSINESS TRAINING FOR STAFF

Business Librarian Uri Toch (yours truly) has completed a series of entrepreneurial workshops covering the major topics involved with starting/operating a small business (finance, marketing, etc.). These workshops, sponsored by SCORE (a branch of the U.S. Small Business Administration), are designed to educate entrepreneurs on the many issues involved with successfully running a business. Uri is currently working with SCORE to integrate library resources into their workshops. Look for SCORE partnership programs at our library, beginning in February.
