Green Teens to the Rescue
2009 Winter Reading Program
Registration begins December 1
Prizes available through February 28
Teens in grades 7 – 12 can read library books to help keep the Earth Green! Teens can fill out book review forms to ‘buy’ prizes and enter drawings. Register at the Reader Services desk of the Central Library or at the branch libraries. 

Gamers Group
Monday, December 1
7:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Youth Services Classroom
Teens in grades 6 – 12 can enjoy many types of video gaming including Rock Band, Wii, PS3 and more. No registration.

Crafting Green
Monday, December 8 3:30 – 4:40 p.m. Hanover Park branch library
Monday, December 8 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. Central library, Youth Services Craft Room
Wednesday, December 10 3 – 4 p.m. Hoffman Estates branch library
Teens in grades 6 – 12 can learn to reuse materials to make art, including designing a stylish tote bag from a shirt. Local artist Carol Thomas will guide teens through several projects. Registration required.

Steal a Scene Creative Writing Contest
Entries Due January 2
Bring emotions and action to life through conversation. Teens in grades 7 – 12 are invited to write a scene, no more than 2 pages. The scene must have at least 2 people and scenery can be described. Email entries to teenservices@stdl.org or drop scenes off at the Reader Services desk of the Central library or at the branch libraries. Winners will be notified by January 29, 2009.

Anyone interested in writing comics ages 10 and up can interact with writer of DC Comic's The Batman Strikes, Russell Lissau.  He will discuss the process of writing, editing, and character development for comics.  He will also conduct a Q & A and lead some fun writing exercises.

Get ready to rock the library. Because this is an after hours event, teens in grades 6 – 12 will need to register for the event and plan on staying for the entire program. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.

Maverick Money Club
Begins Monday, January 19
Are you good with money? Do you want to be? Learn first how to invest in stocks in the new STDL Teen Maverick Money Club.  For the first four weeks, teens will choose from a list of stocks and virtual money and the teen who ‘makes’ the most will receive a prize. All participants will be invited to a pizza party at the end of the program. Registration required, and participants must have an email address to use for this club.

Comic creator Joshua Elder will lead the Writing Club and  graphic novel artist Tim Broderick will conduct the drawing hour. Registration required; specify which club or both.
