Audiovisual's Big Band Concerts

The Schaumburg Township District Library's Audiovisual Department will soon present a baker's dozen of free outdoor concerts this summer on Monday nights during June, July and August. The events will be held across the street from the library in Town Square Park beginning at 7 p.m.  Some of Chicagoland's best suburban bands and singers will perform during the evening events.

The creation of these events started approximately two years ago when John Russell Ghrist (see article below) met with the library to discuss and create a line-up of well-known big bands in the Chicagoland area. We decided to make it one of the largest big band concerts in the history of the Schaumburg Township District Library. Because of patron suggestions and love for this style of music, the bands were called, interviews with bandleaders were conducted, contracts were drawn up and advertising was prepared. With the cooperation of the Village of Schaumburg Prairie Center and nine co-sponsors, the library was able to schedule a summer filled with quality big band music. We are honored and excited to present the following roster of events.

This listing includes rain dates. In case of bad weather, the first concerts consisting of smaller groups will be moved indoors to the library's Audiovisual Department. Large orchestra concerts will be rescheduled for Thursday of the same week.  John Russell Ghrist has graciously agreed to emcee the events and feature music by the bands each week on his Midwest Ballroom radio show. Please remember, all concerts begin at 7 p.m.
