Ed Coward Trio

Ed Coward Trio

The kick-off celebration for National Library Week held on Sunday, April 2 from noon until 3 p.m. was a local success. The library's lobby was transformed into a circus "big top" with carnival games, prizes and music, as well as a magician and stilt-walker. Parents brought their cameras to photograph their
children as they posed with the stiltwalker and the library mascot, Reggie the Reading Raccoon.
Reggie

Library staff greeted people, ran the games and provided information. Patrons heard the lively music presented by the Ed Coward Trio. The trio played Jazz and Pop songs. As a band leader in Los Angeles, Mr. Coward has led trio combos and big bands and has performed in all types of venues. As a freelance musician, Mr. Coward has worked with Nellie Lutcher, Bill Hadnott, Joe Darensberg, Quincy Jones and many others.
The music was an excellent addition as the fair continued on for three solid hours. If you are interested in engaging the Ed Coward Trio or the Ed Coward Big Band for one of your functions, please contact Ed Coward at: (708) 868-8580  or by e-mail at: ecoward2187@
wideopenwest.com
Also included in the festivities was a small book sale and audiovisual sale which raised $422 for libraries destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. All in all, the fair was a total success. Those of you who may have missed the fair, please remember, National Library Week is observed each year in April, generally the second full week. Next year we will celebrate from April 15 through April 21, 2007.

Town Square

VILLAGE PLANS 50TH ANNIVERSARY
The Village of Schaumburg is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its incorporation, which will include the outdoor Big Band Music Series in Town Square sponsored by the Schaumburg Township District Library. The Library held 13 free concerts in Town Square last year and they were all well attended. We plan to repeat the event with another 13 free concerts. The concert series starts Wednesday, May 31 with the Vito Buffalo Orchestra who concluded the season last year in August.  Well over 1,500 people attended that event.  In case of bad weather, the concert will be rescheduled to Thursday, June 1 at 7 p.m.

A program brochure will be available to our concert attendees. It will feature all the events by performance date and include businesses in Schaumburg Township who have agreed to co-sponsor our events. We are grateful to these businesses and we encourage all of you to patronage them. We could have never accomplished this promotion without them. The program brochures will list the following businesses.

Statewide Illinois Library Catalog

The Statewide Illinois Library Catalog, known as SILC, is Illinois' first all inclusive statewide union catalog that integrates WorldCat and the Illinois Library Systems' local consortial OPACs, to provide both shelf status and interlibrary loan capabilities in a single searchable interface. SILC resides on the familiar FirstSearch platform as an additional WorldCat database that allows users to reach to regional groups within Illinois, as well as by type of library. From a single WorldCat record, users will be able to link to a local shared catalog record to see if and where an item is available for loan.

Schaumburg Township District Library has recently launched a new software program to manage your interlibrary loan (ILL)requests. The system allows you to place requests from home or in the library and enables you to check the status of your request, review your due date, request renewals electronically and more.

The first time you use the system, you will need to create a profile. Begin by going to the library's website at www.stdl.org, then follow these simple steps.
1. Click on the "Illinois Catalog" button at the top of the page.
2. Search for your materials.
3. Click on "Borrow this from another library," which will take you to the "Log In" screen.

OR.......

1. On the library's website, click on "Your Account" and choose "Interlibrary Loan."

Once you have arrived at the "Interlibrary Loan" page, log in with your library card number and PIN. (Your PIN number is the month and year of your birth. For example, the PIN for January, 2005 is 0105). Next, fill in your address, phone number, e-mail address and other basic information. After that, you will be ready to go. Just log in each time to use all the features of the program. Staff at the central library or branch staff members can provide assistance. For AV assistance, simply call (847) 923-3182.

The current
interlibrary loan policies have stayed the same with the new system.

1. Available to all STDL cardholders at no charge.
