Band is sponsored by Larry & Dan's Marathon Service

Long
renowned jazz saxophonist Seymour Axelrood wanted to be a big band
leader ever since his high school days. In 1990, Seymour made
the extraordinary commitment to realize his dream. Pulling together
high quality musicians from as far north as Antioch and as far west
as Elgin, he formed Seymour's Big Band. It
is a full 16-piece band with vocalist Patsy
Ihrke.
The band's music
library is extensive and consists of more than 600 musical
selections and arrangements, including jazz, swing, rhumbas, mambos,
cha cha's, tangos, ballads, polkas, waltzes, Motown, country western
and much more. The bulk of the band's arrangements have been written
by Ken White and Joe Gallagher. The band has the full
instrumentation of five saxophones, four trumpets, four trombones,
piano, drums and bass. This versatility allows the band to create a
variety of arrangements for corporate parties, weddings,
anniversaries, graduation dances and summer concerts in the park, as
well as ethnic music for many groups. Excellent ensemble
playing and sterling solo renditions are the trademarks of the
organization.
Included in the many venues they have played
recently are: Signature Room at the John Hancock, Chicago
Athletic Club, Great Lakes Naval Training Center, Field Museum,
Renaissance Hotel in Oak Brook, Bellini's Ballroom in Libertyville,
Fountain Blue Restaurant in DesPlaines, Rialto Square Center in
Joliet, Newberry Library, Maggiano's Banquet Hall of Oak Brook and
Drury Lane in Oak Brook.
They are presently performing at the Oak Park Arms Retirement Center
Ballroom the first Sunday of the even numbered months on a pro bono
basis.

Patsy
Ihrke
Patsy
Ihrke's beautiful voice and extensive musical training have combined
to produce a singer of exceptional quality. Her work should not be
missed.

agency.
The Maxwell Street
Klezmer Band was founded in 1983 by singer Lori Lippitz. It is one
of America's top Klezmer show bands and has performed on countless
stages across America and Europe. Their unique concerts are richly
comprised of their own arrangements of traditional klezmer music,
songs from the golden age of the Yiddish theater and original
klezmer-classical compositions, all offered with energy and humor.
Jazzy Yiddish pop music from the 1930's to the 1950's includes male
and female vocals and duets, all delivered with warmth and hmor. A
Maxwell Street show never fails to engage any audience with
enthusiasm and personality, regardless of age and various cultural
backgrounds of the audience.
Their performances
have been staged across America and Europe. In 1998, 2000, 2001, and
2002, the band performed concerts across Europe including in
Germany, London, Munich, Vienna, Amsterdam, Enschede and The Hague.
In 1998, the band gave their debut performance at Carnegie Hall and
at New York's Damrosch Park at Lincoln Center. Maxwell Street has
appeared on the PBS programme "World Stage Chicago" in 1995, and was
featured again on Public Television's "Artbeat Chicago" in March
1999. One of their songs was featured in an episode of ABC's "Saving
Grace." Maxwell Street has been featured annually on Network
Chicago's (PBS) "Do It Yourself Hanukkah" television special. In
2004, Maxwell Street's 2002 CD "Old Roots, New World" was voted
"Best Jewish/Hebrew/Klezmer Album" by the Just Plain Folks
2004 music awards.
Lori
Lippitz
Lori Lippitz, band leader, vocalist and
guitarist received her BA from U. of Michigan and did graduate work
in Slavic Studies at the University of Chicago. She founded
Maxwell Street in 1983, which was one of the first bands to launch
the klezmer revival in the Midwest. Under the auspices of her
Klezmer Music Foundation, Lori organized an annual Midwest Klezmer
and Yiddish Music Institute, and organized the Maxwell Street Junior
Klezmer Orchestra, a training ground for teens. She co-founded
the Yiddish Arts Ensemble, a family repertory company. As well
as being the Cantor for ten years at the Jewish Reconstructionist
Congregation of Evanston, Lori organized their congregational
klezmer band. She lectures on klezmer music and is a frequent
guest on National Public Radio and Public Television. She also
has been honored by The Guide to Jewish Chicago as being

ANNIVERSARY |
|
Happy 50th Birthday to the Village of
Schaumburg! The Schaumburg Township District
Library, in cooperation with the Schaumburg Park District and the
Village of Schaumburg, is presenting free entertainment this summer.
The events are held across the street from the library in
Schaumburg's Town Square. The
concerts continue through Monday, Aug. 14. All ages are welcome to
come and hear some of Chicagoland's best suburban bands and singers.
In case of bad weather, the orchestral concerts
will be rescheduled. Please notice some changes in dates. Not all
concerts take place on Monday evenings. Each event starts at 7
p.m.
The creation of these big band concerts
started approximately three years ago. Because of patron suggestions
and love for this style of music, the bands were called, interviews
with bandleaders were conducted, contracts were drawn up and
advertising was prepared. With the cooperation of the Village of
Schaumburg and the Schaumburg Park District, the library was able to
schedule a summer filled with quality big band music.
A program brochure will be available to
our concert attendees. It will feature all the events by performance
date and include businesses in Schaumburg Township who have agreed
to co-sponsor our events. We are grateful to these businesses and
encourage all of you to patronize them. We could have never
accomplished this promotion without them. The program brochures will
list the following businesses.
