Barbershop Harmony Society.

Harmony Chorus meets in Schaumburg at St. Peter Lutheran

dedicated to working hard and are never satisfied with "good

Director Todd Wilson
Todd Wilson
was appointed Director of Music of the Brotherhood of Harmony Chorus
in February of 2006. Wilson brings a wealth of experience to this
organization as a director, performer, coach, studio vocalist and
organizational leader.
He started singing in a quartet with
his mother, father and sister at age 6 and competed in his
first international-level contest at age 13. He's competed on the
international stage 14 more times since 1973 as a quartet and
chorus singer and director. Todd was born and raised in West Palm
Beach, Florida but moved west to Texas in 1982.
Todd remains
active with two international champion quartets. He sings tenor with
ACOUSTIX and bass with the Suntones.
In January of 1990, and in a
record-setting six months, ACOUSTIX was judged "best in the world"
in the International barbershop quartet contest, making Wilson the
first second-generation quartet gold medalist in the history of the
Barbershop Harmony Society. This foursome has gone on to release
five critically-acclaimed compact disc recordings and has been
electrifying audiences around the world for 16 years, including
almost 1000 appearances in 11 countries. Todd and the rest of his
quartet members were inducted into the Southwestern District Hall of
Fame in 2000.
Todd also performs a limited number of
engagements annually with the 1961 International Quartet Champion
Suntones, one of the world's benchmark quartets. The Suntones have
made over 1000 appearances in 48 states of the USA and released 11
albums over a span of five decades. His dad Harlan is the baritone
of that quartet. The Suntones were inducted into the Barbershop
Harmony Society's Hall of Fame in 2005.
Wilson served on the
Board of Directors of the Barbershop Harmony Society for almost
three years before relocating to Kenosha, Wisconsin and joining the
headquarters staff in August of 2004. As Director of Marketing and
Membership, Todd is responsible for providing vision and direction
to the Society's marketing, membership, merchandising and
publications operations.
In addition to his gold medal with
ACOUSTIX, Todd has earned six international chorus gold medals with
the Vocal Majority, where he served on the music staff for over a
decade.
Todd's most recent directing experience was with the
90-voice Houston Tidelanders. During his two-year tenure, Wilson led
the Tidelanders to a Southwestern District Chorus Championship and
two top-10 finishes at the international chorus
contest.

GOING ON
VACATION?
Have you ever considered checking out your library
materials for an extended period of time?
Before your vacation, plan on checking
out a spoken book or spoken CD when traveling by plane or
auto. We own more than 15,000 titles in our
spoken CD and spoken book collection. How about a favorite
video title? We have approximately 16,500 VHS videos from
which to choose. The popularity of DVD viewing when traveling is not
new to the public. DVD options have expanded to both the front and rear of
sedans, wagons and SUVs. Many people like to take a nice movie selection
to their final destination or better yet, in their vehicle just to
avoid that favorite question from children - "Are we there
yet?" The library owns 10,000+ DVDs. A vacation loan is
available throughout the year for most library materials. New
audiovisual material s, also known as developing collections, are not
included in vacation loans. Please inquire at the Audiovisual Information
Desk when selecting materials. Staff will assist you to the
shelves. Phone calls are welcome at (847) 923-3182.

StringFusion Monday, Aug.13
7 - 8:15 p.m.
Rain date: Aug. 16
StringFusion
Edgar Gabriel's
StringFusion is an exciting new
jazz fusion ensemble from Chicago. With former Cirque du Soleil
electric violinist Edgar Gabriel at the helm, this group fuses
elements of rock, classical and world music into its intelligent
entertaining character.
If you want to hear innovative
music highlighted by a jazz/rock/fiddler/classical violinist who has
worked with some of the greatest musicians in the world such as
Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, Daniel Barenboim, Andrea Bocelli, Ray
Charles, The Flock and Cheap Trick, StringFusion is the band you
must see.
Director Edgar Gabriel
Edgar Gabriel's StringFusion takes the audience on a
musical journey which transcends time, geography and cultures. This
musical ensemble combines old world music with new musical stylings
and technology to create a true original sound for the 21st century.
Violinist and composer Edgar Gabriel's many years of professional
experience in performance of classical, jazz, rock,
blues and fiddle music is complimented by the extreme technical
precision and creativity of musicians Maurice Houston (Bass), Steve
Doyle (Guitar), Fred Simon (Keyboards), Inderjeet Sidhu (Drums/
Tabla) and Michael Levin (Saxophone/ Flute /Clarinet).
The repertoire of StringFusion is a
combination of original material and great works by known artists
and composers. The ensemble performs works by Bach, Jean-Luc Ponty,
Charlie Parker, Frank Zappa, Jimi Hendrix and Edgar Gabriel all in
the same concert, with a continuity designed to hold the interest of
the listener. Also, the integration of west and eastern music is
essential StringFusion. Three elements create a common thread to
this diverse collection: the violin, the technical level of each
composition and the creation of something new and different.
The industry term for StringFusion could be called classical
crossover, for it crosses the lines of classical, rock, jazz and
folk. The music industry requires musical groups to fit into a
single catagory in order to be commercially viable. However, Edgar
believes artists cannot limit themselves. He has also experienced
very positive audience reaction and encouragement from his eclectic
repertoire. Quoting Edgar Gabriel, "There are only two types of
music, good and bad". He goes on to say that "The public is hungry
for new good music and they should decide what they would like to
hear."
Edgar Gabriel's StringFusion is designed to bring
people together through music by performing music of varied cultures
and eras. It is also to bring the violin back to it's rightful place
as an important instrument for all types of music. Furthermore,
StringFusion has been created to entertain, enlighten and hopefully
inspire audiences throughout the world.
Edgar Gabriel is a musician in great demand due to his ability to
play many styles on the violin. He has performed with such diverse
groups as Mannheim Steamroller, Chicago Opera Theater and The Big
Apple Circus. Edgar has worked in many theaters including
Steppenwolf, where in 1994 he led an on-stage string quartet in "A
Clockwork Orange." Recently, Edgar's versatility has won him
positions with the world renown Cirque du Soleil. In 2002 Edgar
worked in Las Vegas with their Mystère show, and toured with Dralion
in 2003. Edgar can be heard playing Irish fiddle and mandolin with
The Chicago Rovers, Edgar has recently become the electric violinist
with the reformed 1960-70's rock, funk, fusion band, The Flock.
Edgar Gabriel is the other violinist in Rachel Barton's string trio
Stringendo, along with Brandon Vamos on cello. Their CD "Storming
the Citadel,&q uot; is available on Cacophony Records. In 1998,
Edgar released a CD with virtuoso pianist Greg Lawrence entitled,
"The Gabriel-Lawrence Inventions". This CD is available on Density
Records. As a founding member of the 3rd Coast String Quartet, Edgar
arranged and composed many original works for string quartet.
He continues to write and arrange music for strings, other
instruments and voices. Most recently, Edgar has created a
system to teach improvisation, fiddling and other styles of music
not usually taught with the traditional classical repertoire. He
calls this String Groove™, which he teaches in courses and workshops
throughout the country.
Edgar is on the faculty of William
Rainey Harper College, to teach String Groove. Edgar holds an
undergraduate degree in music from Northern Illinois University and
a Master of Music in Jazz Studies from DePaul University. For more
