Slay a Book 2005 Teen Summer Reading Event May 16 - August 30
Slay a Book this summer
and join in some spine-tingling events for teens. Designed by the Teen
Advisory Board, programs will include Terror Tuesdays with scary movies, a
Scary Scavenger Hunt and much more! Teens going into grades 7-12 can
participate in the reading program by picking up a SCARE (BINGO-type) card
from the Reader Services Desk at the central library or at the

Did you read the wonderful Sisterhood books by Ann Brashares? Come experience the fun of sisterhood with this event. Teens in grades 7-12 will make jean purses, friendship bracelets and more. Local artist Carol Thomas will demonstrate making a memorable journal and/or

Teen Invasion Kickoff Barbecue Friday, June 17 / Noon-3 p.m.
Hosted by Schaumburg Township Spectrum Youth and Family Services, this teen event will celebrate the beginning of summer and Teen Invasion. Teens from all over the township are invited to enjoy food, volleyball, Frisbee and softball. Attending the Barbecue counts as a ticket for the Teen Invasion program, too!
Teen Art Club Tuesdays, June 28 & July 26
Youth Services Craft Room
Do you like to create art? Do you like to make crafts or paint? Then come join the Teen Art Club. Each month will feature a different theme or idea. Snacks and inspiration will be available. Terror Tuesdays

Teens in grades 7-12 may drop by the Teen Center from 1-3 to enjoy board games, snacks, contests and prizes before heading over to the Audiovisual Department to view some horror movies.

Poetry is an art form.
Teens in grades 7-12 can explore different forms of poetry during this three
week workshop. Local author Catherine Stier will work with teens to share

Teen Writing Club

Do you like to write stories or poems? Would you like to meet other people who like writing? Run by local author Catherine Stier, this growing group provides a chance for teens going into grades 7-12 to share stories, poems and tips on getting published.
Annual Mystery in the Library
Wednesday, July 27 /
Rasmussen South room
Do you watch cop shows or like to read mysteries? Teens going into grades 7-12 can learn what detectives do to question witnesses and ferret out clues when a crime has been committed. Work with a team to solve a Mystery in the Library! Pizza and dessert will be served and prizes will be awarded to the team that solves the crime! A $5 fee is required for this event to secure your place, so register in person at the Adult Information Desk.
Knit Wits Tuesday, August 2 & Thursday, August 4
Learn to knit like Julia
Roberts and Sandra Bullock at this workshop. Each teen in grades 7-12 will
learn the basics of casting on, knitting and purling as we make squares to
create a blanket for a charitable organization. Basic supplies will be
provided, but teens who know something about knitting are welcome to bring
their own yarn or needles. Teens will also receive basic hat patterns.

How to Draw Anime and Manga Art

Harry Potter Fest Tuesday, August 9 / Noon-4 (movie then activities) Audiovisual department, then Youth Services
Finish the new book Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, then celebrate at the library! The movie of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban will be shown in the back of the Audiovisual department from Noon-2:40 p.m., then go over to the Youth Services department to learn about secret writing, magical concoctions and hidden treasure! Snacks will be served. Young people ages 10 and up will be invited to this celebration of all things Harry Potter. Register at the Youth Services Information Desk. |
