Teen Advisory Board

The Teen Advisory Board plans and participates in programs throughout the township all year. At the September meeting, we will host a mini-DDR tournament and plan a much bigger one to be held at the library in the future!  At our October meeting, we will have our annual Halloween party with DDR, contests and games. Dare to come! At our November meeting, we will design cards for kids with cancer as well as other community service projects. New members are always welcome. Interested teens in grades 7-12 can register by calling Teen Coordinator Amy Alessio at (847) 923-3191 or email aalessio@stdl with questions. 

 

Teen Writing Club

Tuesdays, Sept. 20, Oct. 18, Nov. 15, 7-8:30  p.m.

Rasmussen South

Do you like to write stories or poems?  Would you like to meet other people who like writing?  Run by local author Catherine Stier, this growing group provides an opportunity for teens going into grades 7-12 to share stories, poems and tips on getting published. 

 

Teen Art Club

Tuesdays, Sept. 27, Oct. 25, Nov. 22, 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Youth Services Craft Room

Do you like to create art, draw cartoons or paint? Then come join the Teen Art Club.  Each month will feature a different theme or idea. Snacks and inspiration will be available.  Students in grades 6-9 are welcome to participate. To register, call (847) 923-3191 or email aalessio@stdl.org.  No fee.

  

Make a Difference Day Idea Contest

October 1-13

National Make a Difference Day is Saturday, Oct. 22.  Do you have good ideas for things teens can do to make a difference in the community?  Have you done something really great in past years?  Let us know about it!  Write a description of the idea or project and send it to aalessio@stdl.org.  Entries will be posted when they are admitted on the library website, under www.stdl.org Teen Page-Virtual Coffeehouse. Winners, who will be chosen by the Teen Writing Club and announced on Oct. 20, will receive a gift certificate to Borders Book Store.

 

October Warm Up the Community Teen Drive

Teens in grades 7-12 can turn in new mittens/gloves, scarves and hats to the Reader Services Desk or to the branch libraries during October to enter a drawing for a $25 Target gift certificate. Each item or set (mittens/gloves count as 1) will earn a drawing ticket. Items will be donated to area shelters during November.

 

Reach Out to the Community

Help your neighbors in need! Beginning in October, teens may pick up information in the Teen Center or at the branch libraries about local organizations and their needs. 

 

Fifth Annual Township Halloween Event

Friday, Oct. 28, 6:30-9:30 p.m.

STDL and Schaumburg Township Spectrum Youth and Family Services are co-hosting a Halloween teen extravaganza. Teens in grades 7-12 can come to participate in Dance Dance Revolution, open gym time (for part of the evening), and scary activities for this popular event! Prizes will be drawn and refreshments will be available all evening. Come in costume if you dare! Call (847) 923-3191 with questions.

 

Comic Book Workshop (ages 10-14)

Friday, Nov. 11, 10 a.m.-noon

Youth Services Craft Room

Join us for a hands-on workshop about the world of comics presented by Brad Weber.  Students will learn about drawing, script writing, character development and more.  Participants are encouraged to bring ideas and designs. Registration required at the Youth Services Information Desk. Call (847) 923-3439. No fee.

TPH(The Party’s Here)

TPH is a safe, supervised, action-packed program held on the first Friday of each month for 7th and 8th graders of District 54 and area parochial schools. A variety of activities are offered each month including a DJ with sound and light system, table tennis, foosball, stick hockey, dodgeball, wallyball, bead/jewelry making, card area, Twister and Baggo. The newest craze to hit TPH is DDR (Dance, Dance Revolution). Show off your moves dancing and challenging friends to see who has the best moves with this Playstation interactive game! Snacks and pop are available for purchase. If you have any questions regarding the registration procedure or the

TPH program, please call 847/985-2141.

Overview

Those attending TPH must purchase a pass, which includes a photo ID and number of events. This pass must be brought to every TPH event.No one is admitted without this official pass or a daily wristband and photo ID! All participants, with a parent/guardian, must complete andsign a membership application prior to participating in any TPH event.

Procedures

Remember, a parent or guardian must escort their child into the building through the south entrance where you will wait with him or her to be scanned and signed in. Carpooling is encouraged! When it’s pick-up time, please designate an area to meet your child and remember to sign them out before exiting through the north entrance.

Passes

Participants are encouraged to take advantage of the savings when purchasing a package. Daily event and photo IDs are a one-event option. Cards are $12 and photo IDs are $12. An event pass and photo ID may be purchased at:

Bock: 9AM to 5PM, Monday through Friday and 9AM to noon on Saturday.

Meineke: Until 9:30PM daily.

CRC: Until 9PM daily.

NO NEW PASSES WILL BE SOLD THE DAY OF THE EVENT!

No registration or purchase of replacement passes/ID are accepted the day of TPH events.

Dress Code

TPH dress code follows the District 54 dress code. There  will be a list outlining what will be allowed and not

allowed posted at the various park district facilities, along with fliers.

Oct. 7: Halloween Frenzy (Dress in your favorite costume)

Nov. 4: Pajama Party (Wear your favorite PJs)

Dec. 2: No theme

*Dressing up is optional, but if you do dress up, please stay within District 54 dress code guidelines. Some activities/music will coincide with theme nights!

Teen Art Explosion

This two-dimensional art program features color mixing, figure drawing, drawing with line, shading and perspective. Use a variety of art materials such as acrylic paint, oil pastels, drawing pencils, chalk and color pencils. Projects change each season. Fee includes supplies.

Holiday Sports Festival

Get geared up for some real sports fun this winter break. Travel down to McCormick place and participate in some interactive zones such as; golf, climbing walls, football, skills area, footbag, martial arts, badminton, boxing, skateboarding and fishing! There is something for everyo ne and every skill level. You will be able to try out different sports and view some real tournaments. Bring money for lunch.

Paintball Blast

Enjoy a day at Fox River Games! Rent all equipment or pay a self-equipped participant fee. Fee includes 300 paintballs and referees. Wear warm, loose fitting and earth-toned clothes. A parent letter and waiver will be sent out after registration. Bring your own gun or pay $10 for re ntal fee when you register.

Jr. High Weight Conditioning

Calling all Junior High Students! Do you want to learn how to properly workout through the use of a combination of cardiovascular and weight training? Work with STP’s personal trainer to enhance muscle tone and improve cardiovascular endurance. There is a separate class for boys and girls.

Junior G.U.T.S. Boot Camp

The Junior G.U.T.S. (Group Uniform Training Systems) Boot Camp is an 4 week program designed to teach children the components of health: cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength/ endurance, flexibility, body composition, nutrition and a sense of overall well-being.
