Fall into great new programs at STDL! Register for most programs by sending an email to Amy Alessio, Teen Coordinator at aalessio@stdl.org or by calling (847) 923-3191. Amy works part-time so it may take a few days for calls or emails to be returned. You can also contact us through http://www.myspace.com/stdlteen. Programs with a fee require registration in person at the Information/Magazines Desk on the second floor of the central library.
 
Teen Advisory Board
 Tuesdays, Sept. 19, Oct. 17, Nov. 21
 Rasmussen South Room
Teens in grades 7 - 12 can share ideas each month with the Teen Advisory Board. In September, we will try out video game equipment and plan a new Teen Gamers Group to begin later this fall. Games will include DDR, Guitar Hero and xBox games. During October, we will celebrate Halloween with Haunted Gingerbread Houses. In November, we will make cards for local hospitals and veterans with artist Carol Thomas. Food will be served. Registration required.

Bring poems and stories to share with other teens in grades 7 - 12. This popular club is run by author Catherine Stier. Registration Required.
 
My Space and Internet Safety Issues

This program, for parents or teens in grades 7-12, will provide a demonstration of MySpace and feature the national ISafe Internet Safety materials. Registration required.

Work with professional artist Shannon Townsend as she takes teens in grades 6 - 12 through the latest anime drawing techniques. This class fills fast. Registration required.
 
Art-Teens in Action
Wednesdays, Sept. 27, Oct. 25  
 Youth Services Craft Room
Come experiment with different media and discover your talents! Students in grades 6-9 or ages 11-15 are welcome to participate. Registration required.
 
Teen Read Month 2006: Get Active @ Your Library
Oct. 1-31
Celebrate National Teen Read Month by filling out review slips to enter weekly drawings. Tell us what you think about a book, CD, video game or movie to enter drawings for gift certificate prizes and more. Two lucky winners will win a dinner with author Kenneth Oppel when he comes to the library on November 14. Review slips can be turned in to the Reader’s Advisory Desk at the main library or to the branch libraries.
 
Reach Out to the Community
Come to the library’s Teen   Center or the branches and pick up a list of local and national organizations who need volunteers. Get Active and celebrate October's Make a Difference Day.
 
So You Want to Be a Musician?

It's not impossible! Learn about getting in to today's exciting music world. Meet representatives from FoFi Entertainment, a Chicago based conmpany that produces artists in R&B, hip-hop and rap. Learn about breaking in, sound setup and the best schools. Registration required.

 Join other teens from the Chicagoland area to share ideas about library programs for young adults. Pizza will be served, and DDR/Guitar Hero will be played. Registration required.
 
Anime and Cosplay Night at Hanover Park Branch
Tuesday, Oct. 24

Teens in grades 6 - 12 can learn some new anime drawing techniques from professional artist Shannon Townsend. At this special event, Cosplay will be encouraged (but not required) and prizes will be awarded to teens who dress most like an anime or manga character. Registration required.

STDL and Schaumburg Township Spectrum Youth and Family Services are co-hosting a Halloween teen extravaganza. Teens in grades 7 - 12 can come to participate in Dance Dance Revolution and scary activities for this popular event! Prizes will be drawn and refreshments will be available all evening. In honor of National Children's Book Week, award-winning author Kenneth Oppel will deliver a presentation. His books include the Silverwing trilogy, Airborn and Skybreaker. A variety of titles will be available for purchase and autographing. Registration required.
 
Holiday Crafts for Teens

Teens in grades 6 - 12 can explore crafts for different holidays and cultures with artist Carol Thomas. Teens will take some projects home. Registration required.
