Join the summer of fun activities for teens! Register for most programs by sending an email to Amy Alessio, Teen Coordinator at aalessio@stdl.org or by calling (847) 923-3191. Amy works part-time so it may take a few days for calls or emails to be returned. Programs with a fee require registration in person at the Adult Information/Serials Desk on the second floor of the central library.

2006 Teen Summer Reading Event
May 15 – August 31
Get your Game On this summer and join in the fun for teens. Designed by the Teen Advisory Board, programs will include Great Gaming Tuesdays with board games and DDR, a Board Game Design program, anime workshops and movie events, a Team Scavenger Hunt and much more! Teens going into grades 7 – 12 can participate in the reading program by picking up a BOOKOPOLY game card and book bucks from the Readers' Advisory Desk at the central library or at theHoffman Estates orHanover Park branch libraries. Teens can use Book Bucks for each title read to purchase prizes between July 10 – Aug. 31.Teen Invasion 2006June 16 - August 10This award winning program for teens returns this summer to
. Teens in grades 7 - 12 can earn tickets by going to museums or theaters, reading, taking a class, volunteering and more. Each activity earns teens a number of tickets for drawings. Tickets can be turned in to the Readers' Advisory Desk at the central library or at the Schaumburg Township Hoffman Estates orHanover Park branch libraries. Other participating agencies may collect tickets as well. Drawings will be held Thursdays: June 29, July 13, July 27 and Aug. 10. Prizes will include $50 and $25 gift certificates to area stores, free passes for local games, movie tickets and more! Detailed information with tickets will be distributed at every participating agency in the township.
Teen Invasion Kick Off Barbecue

, next to the Maple Park at Schaumburg Township Building Hoffman Estates Hosted by Schaumburg Township Youth and Family Services, this teen event will celebrate the beginning of summer and Teen Invasion. Teens from all over the township are invited to enjoy food, volleyball, Frisbee and softball. **Attending the Barbecue counts as a ticket for the Teen Invasion program, too! No registration.
Animagnificent Art Contest!
June 1 – July 15
Do you like to draw Anime or Manga? Enter our summer Art Contest! Forms with rules will be available at the central library Readers' Advisory Desk or at the branch libraries. Prizes will include gift certificates to area book and art supply stores. Winners will be judged by anime artist Shannon Townsend and will be displayed in the library during Teen Appreciation Week August 7 – 11.
Fan Fiction Fun
Mondays, June 12 & 19
Teen Center Do you write new stories for favorite characters from TV, movies, books or video games? Come meet other teens who like to write fan fiction and share favorite stories. Author Catherine Stier will lead the workshop for teens going into grades 6 – 12. Bring some writing to share, or enjoy hearing about websites and other places where fan fiction writers congregate. The library will be sponsoring a Fan Fiction short story contest in the fall, so this is a great way to get ideas! Registration required.
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants Event

Did you read the wonderful Sisterhood books by Ann Brashares? Come experience the fun of sisterhood with this event. Teens in grades 7 – 12 will make jeans purses and more. Local artist Carol Thomas will demonstrate making memorable journal and or stationary art. Registration required. Participants must bring in an old pair of jeans to cut up into the purse!

Annual Mystery in the Library: Cruise of Death

Do you watch cop shows or like to read mysteries? Teens going into grades 7 - 12 can learn what detectives do to question witnesses and ferret out clues when a crime has been committed. This year prepare to sail on a dangerous Cruise Ship, then work with a team to solve a Mystery in the Library. Pizza and dessert will be served, and prizes will be awarded to the team that solves the crime! A $5 fee is required for this event to secure your place, so register in person at the Adult Information Desk.

Basic supplies will be provided, but teens who know something about knitting are welcome to bring their own yarn or needles. Teens may also purchase kits to use for the second class.
